Who we are ...
Our Parish at Lauriston in Edinburgh and the Lauriston Jesuit Centre are working towards a greater understanding of the challenges that will face us all during the next 50 years. Care for the environment can be expressed as "Caring for God's creation."
God gave us free will, and the responsibility to care for others; the soil, plants, animals, for all living things. If we can each do our best and encourage others to care for humanity and the planet, we will be caring for God's creation.

What we have done...
Sacred Heart Green Group encourages parishioners to take action for the environment, by...
- Helping to reduce food waste in the local community through waste tracker;
- Reducing energy and resource consumption during Lent 2012 - a carbon fast;
- Encouraging children to find locally grown/produced goods;
- Growing vegetables in the church courtyard;
- Planting trees
- Installing cycle racks to improve security for those who cycle;
- Using rainwater for watering our plants (using a water butt);
- Celebrating Mass in the open;
- Organising a photography exhibition on the theme of God's creation
- Working with the local and global community - holding fundraising events for the school in Zimbabwe;
- Holding a Fair Trade Fashion show;
- Running a Fair Trade stall;
- Organising our Social Justice Film programme;
What we plan to do ...
We intend to repeat Mass on the Mountain twice a year.
We will continue to take environmentally friendly action during One World week and holy days.
We will look for opportunities to focus on environmental issues in prayer and worship.
We intend to carry out an Energy Saving Trust audit in the Sacred Heart Church to reduce our carbon footprint.
Our new website and blog serve to promote the Sacred Heart Green Group's mission, vision, future events, and to encourage discussion about the parish environment, as well as providing an archive for past events and to support the parish community.
